People frequently donate their hair to charity – usually for wig-making for people who have lost their hair due to an illness. This is a great thing to do, but one seven-year-old girl in Canada went one step further.
She and her mom submitted their waist-length hair to kasho scissors, as part of a donation to cancer patients. Additionally, the little girl – Oceanlilli – gave up her life savings to further help kids in need. She donated her “piggy” bank – a real-sized fire hydrant shaped bank to the Credit Valley Hospital Foundation for its cancer center.
“This is my piggy bank, and it’s pretty full,” she said. She and her mom received support from two dozen friends and family members who turned out to witness her hair-cut. Members of her mini-fan club also made donations in return for a turn with the hair scissors.
Oceanlili has been begging her parents to let her donate her hair since she turned four. Finally on her seventh birthday, they finally agreed.
“I’m very proud of her,” said her father Peter. “We support a lot of charity and (OceanLili’s) been talking about this for three years.”
What a way to ring in a new (birthday) year!

The stylist from Pittsburgh, PA put down his kasho shears and took up a hair color brush to recently win the Best Haircolor award from the Professional Beauty Association during the 19th annual North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) – the color above is from his award-winning collection.
Following his win he told NAHA he wove different “stories of texture and color” to create the collection that helped him win.
He used brilliant blondes, matte browns and many more techniques to create “something that not only inspires others” but also re-inspired him to get creative with his work. His collection features several photographs of different cuts, color, and style combinations.
In the journey from the idea, through the creation of the line, and finally to the award, he said his biggest challenge was to make sure he actually followed through and “did it!”

You probably won’t need anything fancy to implement this new look – you can leave the kasho scissors, the exotic blowdryer attachments and other accessories in your work station when working magic on your clients with this new look. The new look in formal is to not look formal at all. You also don’t want to look messy, but trends today are skewing toward a look that is more naural and not overdone.
